I am thinking of trying skiing or snowboarding for the first time...What can I expect?

Be prepared to be hooked for a lifetime ~ skiing and snowboarding although different, both provide a satisfying and energizing experience. The thrill of sliding down pristine snow covered slopes with magical views can only be described as life changing.

Learning to Ski or Snowboard

First Timers (Level 1) Meet at the California Lodge, top of the Gondola or the Boulder Base Lodge. Sessions are full day clinics and meet at 10:00 AM. Cost includes limited access ticket, and ski or snowboard equipment

1-2-3 Three-day Package Program

Our premier learn-to ski / snowboard program (Levels 1,2 & 3) Meets at the California Lodge, the top of the Gondola or Boulder Base Lodge. Sessions are full day clinics and meet at 10:00 AM. Questions & Answers

What will I learn?

On day one (1) you'll learn to how to adjust your equipment. You'll learn to walk, slide , step and stop. Generally, you'll also learn a little about turning and perhaps lift loading and unloading procedures.

Will people make fun of me because I can't ski/ride?

Of course not...hundreds of folks just like you come to our resort to begin their skiing/ riding careers. You will be joined by other new skiers/riders that have chosen the sport for similar reasons as you. Our Ski School is one of the best on the west coast with an expert staff (over 70% are certified) to help you gain the confidence your first few hours on the slopes. Our men and women are specifically trained in pacing the lesson with your needs in mind and your safety comes first and foremost.

Should I rent my equipment before I arrive?

Although rentals are available at the resort, we recommend that you get your equipment off site the night before your lessons. Please plan on checking into the Ski School 1 hour prior to your lesson start time to purchase the class and fill out forms. If you choose to rent equipment at the resort, please plan on arrivating 1 - 1.5 hours prior to the lesson start time to register and to get equipment fitted, and up to 2 hours during Holdiay Periods.

What should I wear?

Dressing for skiing is not as hard as you might think. Weather in the mountains can be fickle so layer is best. For your outerwear bring along water resistant pants and parka. Depending on the temperature sweatpants or long underwear work well. A knit hat and goggles for inclement weather, ball cap, sunglasses a must for clear skies, gloves or mittens (mittens are warmer but less flexible) Insulated socks (but not too thick). Sunscreen SPF 15 or higher.
